CPAP Therapy

The gold-standard treatment for moderate-to-severe sleep apnea — and, done right, one of the most life-changing. Our focus is on the part most clinics skip: making it comfortable enough that you'll actually use it.

What is CPAP?

CPAP stands for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure. It's a small bedside machine connected to a comfortable mask that delivers a gentle, steady stream of air while you sleep. That cushion of air acts like an invisible splint — it keeps the soft tissues at the back of your throat from collapsing, so your airway stays open all night long.

Used consistently, CPAP is the most effective treatment for moderate-to-severe sleep apnea — it can bring your AHI (the number of breathing events per hour) down toward normal and steady your oxygen levels night after night. The catch has never been whether it works, but whether it's comfortable enough to use every night — which is exactly where we focus.

The result is simple but profound: no more pauses in breathing, no more oxygen dips, and no more waking up dozens of times without knowing it. Most patients feel dramatically more rested within days to a few weeks of using it consistently.

Who CPAP is for

CPAP is the first-line, gold-standard therapy for most people with obstructive sleep apnea. Your physician may recommend it if:

  • 1 You have moderate-to-severe OSA
  • 2 A sleep study confirmed your diagnosis
  • 3 You want the most proven treatment
  • 4 You have heart or blood-pressure concerns
  • 5 Snoring is affecting your partner's sleep
  • 6 You're exhausted despite a full night in bed

If you haven't been tested yet, that's the first step — most patients qualify for a simple home sleep study in their own bed.

What to expect

Starting CPAP with us is a guided process, not a hand-off. Here's the typical path:

Mask fittingWe try on several mask styles — nasal, pillow, or full-face — and find the one that seals well and feels right for how you sleep. Fit is the single biggest factor in success.
Titration & setupYour ideal air pressure is determined from your sleep study or an auto-adjusting machine. We configure humidity, ramp, and comfort settings before you take it home.
The first weeksAn adjustment period is normal. We coach you through it and, thanks to built-in wireless reporting, we can see how therapy is going and fine-tune remotely.
Follow-up & monitoringWe check your usage and results, tweak settings, and swap masks or supplies as needed — so small problems never become reasons to quit.

Our difference: making it stick

Here's the honest truth about CPAP: the machine works nearly every time — the challenge is human. Many people are handed a device with little guidance and give up within weeks. We built our program around that exact problem.

The right mask

We fit you in person and let you try options, because a comfortable seal is what makes therapy livable night after night.

Remote monitoring

Modern machines report your usage and how well the airway is staying open. We watch the data with you and adjust — no guesswork.

Comfort & troubleshooting

Common hurdles — and how we solve them

Almost every worry about CPAP has a straightforward fix. When something isn't working, we treat it as a problem to solve together, not a reason to stop.

DrynessHeated humidification and climate-line tubing keep your nose and mouth comfortable in dry Arizona air.
Mask leaksA re-fit, a different style, or a cushion swap usually solves leaks and skin marks for good.
PressureRamp and auto-adjusting modes ease you in gently so the air never feels like too much at bedtime.
ClaustrophobiaLighter nasal-pillow masks and short daytime practice sessions help you feel at ease quickly.

CPAP therapy FAQs

Is CPAP loud? Will it bother my partner?

Modern CPAP machines are remarkably quiet — most produce a soft, steady hum quieter than a whisper. Many partners actually sleep better because the snoring and gasping stop. If you notice any noise, it's usually a small mask leak we can fix in minutes.

How long each night do I have to use it?

For the full health benefits, we aim for use every night, all night. That said, comfort comes first — we'd rather build the habit gradually with the right mask and settings than have you give up. Our remote monitoring helps us cheer on your progress and troubleshoot early.

Does insurance cover CPAP?

Most major Arizona plans and Medicare cover CPAP machines, masks, and ongoing supplies when apnea is diagnosed by a sleep study. We verify your specific benefits before you start so there are no surprises. Visit our insurance page or call the office to check your plan.

Can I travel with a CPAP?

Yes. Most machines are compact, and travel-sized units exist for frequent flyers. CPAP is allowed through airport security and doesn't count as a carry-on bag. We'll show you how to pack and power it for trips.

What if I try CPAP and still can't tolerate it?

You're not stuck. Before we ever consider switching, we'll re-fit your mask and adjust settings — that solves most issues. If CPAP still isn't for you, many patients do well on an oral appliance or qualify for the Inspire implant. Part of our job is finding the option you'll actually use.
